Vanessa Miller

~~About The Book~~

She wanted a peaceful escape to the Bahamas. What she got was love and danger at every turn.

Renee Thomas can’t trust herself to pick a good man. Putting her life back together after being in an abusive relationship, she finds a job. Her new job isn’t exciting, but it nets one major positive: she reconnects with an old flame, but like a moth to a flame, her abuser also tries to reconnect with disastrous results, not only for her, but everyone she loves.

Jay Morris can’t afford any distractions. He’s staking his entire career on an IPO that must go off without any glitches…but he can’t stop thinking about Renee and the fear he saw in her eyes. He’d give up everything in order to protect her… he’d walk through fire for the chance to love her.

~~About The Author~~

Vanessa Miller of Dayton, Ohio, is a best-selling author, playwright, and motivational speaker. Her stage productions include: Get You Some Business, Don’t Turn Your Back on God, and Can’t You Hear Them Crying. Vanessa is currently in the process of turning the novels in the Rain Series into stage productions.

Vanessa has been writing since she was a young child. When she wasn’t writing poetry, short stories, stage plays and novels, reading great books consumed her free time. However, it wasn’t until she committed her life to the Lord in 1994 that she realized all gifts and anointing come from God. She then set out to write redemption stories that glorify God.

To date, Vanessa has completed the Rain and Storm Series. She is currently working on the Forsaken series, Second Chance at Love series and a single title, Long Time Coming. Vanessa believes that each book will touch readers across the country in a special way. It is, after all, her God-given destiny to write and produce plays and novels that bring deliverance to God’s people. These books have received rave reviews, winning Best Christian Fiction Awards and topping numerous Bestseller’s lists.
                                                                           The Interview

How did you start out your writing career?
I have been writing since I was a kid. I always knew that I wanted to write. I just didn’t know at that time that God had called me to write for His glory... anyway, I spent my teens and twenties writing poems, stage plays, and magazine articles and finally attempted a few books that I never finished. Then, a story clicked. I spent a few years writing and rewriting it and it was finally ready to be introduced to the wonderful people who would become my readers. That book was Former Rain.
What did you learn while writing this book?
I actually didn’t learn much while writing the book. But after I sent my first novel off to a professional editor and then she sent it back with a long list of everything I had done wrong, I sat down and went back through the novel. And that is when I learned the skill it takes to become an author.
What did you hope to accomplish with this book?
The same thing I hope to accomplish with all of my books... to spread the good news about a God who loves us and who is well able to handle the things that concern us.
What came first with this story, the characters or the plot? Why?
Plot has a lot to do with a story. If the plot doesn’t hold up then the story will not succeed. However, I am a character driven writer. I want to get inside my character’s head and discover what makes him/her who they are at that moment. My scenes are driven by the character. I never try to force an action or reaction. I try to make it all fit based on who that character is.
What has surprised you most about becoming a published author?
The number of people who enjoy the books that I write and that fact that they are just as drawn to stories about the love of God as I am.
What books are on your to read list?
Love on a Budget by Norma Jarrett
Breaking All the Rules by Rhonda Mcknight
Stopping Traffic by Pat Simmons
Lies and Alibis by Tiffany L. Warren
Stepping Down by Michelle Stimpson
Brianna White by Loreal Ballou
Has having a writing career always been your dream?
Yes, since I was a child, I always knew I had the gift of writing and wanted to write like some of the authors I read at that time.
Can you give us one do and one don’t for those aspiring to be a writer?
Do -write as much as possible and create the stories that speak to your heart
Don’t -follow trends. If you try to write in a certain genre because someone told you that this particular genre was doing really well, but you don’t have a heart for that genre... the reader will sense that and you will not be able to grow your readership.
What is your writing process? How do you feed your writing muse?
I don’t really have a process. I just get up every morning, spend some time in prayer or reading the Bible or listening to a few TV preachers that I like, and then I write until I can’t write anymore for that day.
Within the next five years what stage do you expect to be in your career?
My prayer is that I would have reached millions of people at that point with my print, ebooks, audio books and stage productions.
When you're not writing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Vacation, spend time with my family, read and shop :-)
What do you do to interact with your readers?
Can you give us a sneak peek of your next book?
I am currently working on the Praise Him Anyhow series. This series will have nine books in total before I’m finished. So far I have completed the first 5 books (Tears Fall at Night, Joy Comes in the Morning, A Forever Kind of Love, Ramsey’s Praise and Escape to Love).
Escape to Love just released on October 7th, so I am currently promoting this book about Renee Thomas, a woman whose life was severely affected by domestic violence.
Escape to Love is a story about trusting God even in the midst of insurmountable situations.

What others are saying…. “Readers will be emotionally invested in the characters from the start. The character’s pain and inner struggles lead to heart-wrenching scenes. Themes of faith, forgiveness and reconciliation make this a powerful testament to God’s faithfulness that will remain with the reader long after the final page.” -- RT Reviewer

 Review 5 out 5 Stars
Renee Thomas is a broken woman spiritually searching for new beginnings and a way to heal her soul from the inside out. But, sometimes when we're in the midst of putting the pieces of our lives back together the devil is right around the corner working his own plan. For Renee love comes in different formations and finding the authenticity of love and connecting with God will challenge Renee in more ways than one. Miller has the power and ability to draw readers in with rich characters that are original and alive with human flaws.  Escape to love is not only a romantic and enchanting love story that draws you in from beginning to end on every page, it's a powerful message that breathes the power of God and do things on his time. Readers will immediately connect with Renee Thomas and learn from her mistake and learn to take this eloquent tale of pain and hurt and lead them closer to God and entrusting Miller to pave the way through beautifully crafted stories.
