Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (May 21, 2014)
How did you start out your writing career? I started by simply writing a manuscript, making it the best I could make it, then sending it off to a publisher. The first publisher rejected it, but thank God the second one loved it!
What did you learn while writing this book? Writing this book challenged my faith as a mother. When Seth went missing, I struggled with whether or not LaShondra’s presence in the media would work for them or against them. In the midst of all those scenes, the Nigerian girls were kidnapped and the rest of the world slept. Those very real struggles continue for me and so many others.
What did you hope to accomplish with this book? So many people LOVED Boaz Brown, I hope to reintroduce them to the characters and be challenged along with LaShondra as she explores racial questions within the context of a loving Christian marriage.
What came first with this story, the characters or the plot? Why? Since this is a sequel, the characters came first. The plot unraveled slowly as I wrote.
What has surprised you most about becoming a published author? I’m surprised by how many people want to write books. It’s like, when I say I’m an author, people get a twinkle in their eyes and begin to say what their dreams were long, long ago. I am saddened that so many have put their dreams on the back burner.
What aspect of writing do you love the best, and which do you hate the most? LOVE – finishing a book. HATE – being in the middle of a novel because writing is all-consuming.
How do you conquer writers block? I pray through it as I write through it. Even if I don’t like it, I keep writing.
What books are on your to read list? The Color of Hope by Kim Cash Tate, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Has having a writing career always been your dream? No. I thought I’d write one good book. I didn’t know I had 25+ in me!
About The Author
Michelle serves in women’s ministry at her home church, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, in Dallas, TX. She regularly speaks at special events and writing workshops sponsored by churches, schools, book clubs and other positive organizations, and she has taught writing classes at the University of Texas at Arlington. About The Book
LaShondra and her Boaz, Stelson, are living the ideal American lifestyle, except for the subtle and not-so-subtle ways society keeps reminding them that they aren’t the norm. She’s African-American, he’s Caucasian, and their oldest child is already tackling the question of identity. It’s bad enough when outsiders show their ignorance or disdain. But when the issues come from family, LaShondra finds herself wondering if Stelson can truly comprehend the challenges looming on the horizon.
When a church picnic leads to a head-on clash between LaShondra’s fears and Stelson’s optimism, the truth prevails. But that’s just the beginning.
LaShondra learns that the drama during the family outing was only a set-up for an even more rigorous spiritual battle to save her family. After turning her back to the pressures at work and yielding to Stelson’s leadership, LaShondra finds herself interceding for a husband she hardly even recognizes anymore.
Is this the beginning of the end for the couple that truly endeavored to honor God’s ways, or will this season fortify their marriage for His glory?
